My Teaching Philosophy

I believe trumpet teaching should balance strong fundamentals with musical expression, fostering independent, confident players who understand not just what to play, but how and why to play it. In my lessons, I follow a clear process that keeps students growing technically, musically, and personally.

8 Point Process:

  1. Connect – Build trust, learn goals, make it personal.

  2. Warm-up – Breathing, buzzing, tone, flexibility, articulation.

  3. Technique in Context – Tie drills directly to music.

  4. Model & Listen – Demonstrate, have students self-assess.

  5. Problem-Solve – Diagnose, give clear fixes, encourage trying solutions.

  6. Musicianship – Sight-reading, transposition, theory in context.

  7. Practice Tools – Teach smart, goal-oriented practice.

  8. Encourage – Recap, set next steps, celebrate progress.

I believe my approach keeps lessons focused yet flexible, so students leave each week with a clear plan, a sense of accomplishment, and motivation to keep growing as musicians and as people.
